New K-9 Deputy Szaul

Sheriff Dwight Franklin is proud to announce the addition of our newest deputy, K-9 Szaul (pronounced Zol.) Szaul is a male Hungarian Malinois trained as a single-purpose dog specializing in explosives detection. The purchase of Szaul was funded by a grant from the Department of Homeland Security and he will replace our recently retired explosives detection dog, Xaver, a male European Shepherd who retired for medical reasons after ten years of service with our department.

Szaul will be partnered with Sergeant David Edwards, our 911 Director. Sgt Edwards has been with the department since January of 1988 and has served as a dog handler for more than twenty-five years.
