A cat can get pregnant at 3 months of age, before it reaches maturity. The average number of litters a fertile cat can produce in one year is 3.  The average number of kittens in a feline litter is between 4-6.  In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can theoretically produce 420,000 cats.   

A dog can get pregnant at 5 months of age, before it reaches maturity.  In six years an unspayed female dog, her offspring and her offspring's puppies, if none are spayed or neutered, could equal 67,000.

The excuses we often hear when picking up strays or attending to neglected animals is;

• I don't have the money for spaying or neutering    
• I want my children to witness the miracle of birth  
• I don't have time to deal with it
• I'm careful to make sure she doesn't mate when she's out
• I thought I would make some easy money selling the puppies 
• I just couldn't take away Rover's manhood like that
• I just didn't Know
• Religious reasons
• I just haven't got around to it
