Sheriff Announces Passing of Beloved K9 Deputy

04/09/2025

Camdenton, MO - 04-09-25 - The Camden County Sheriff's Office is deeply saddened to announce the passing of K-9 Deputy Shadow, a beloved member of our agency, a dedicated partner to Deputy Dylan Rice, and a loving member of the Rice family.

Deputy Shadow, a German Shepherd, was hit by a motor vehicle while conducting routine training with his handler near his home Sunday evening. Tragically, Deputy Shadow succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident.

Deputy Shadow joined the Camden County Sheriff's Office in 2023 and served with distinction during his time with us. Shadow was a dual purpose K9 trained in patrol (tracking, apprehension and handler protection) and narcotics detection.

There will be a private memorial service at a date to be determined.

"Deputy Shadow was a friend to all our deputies and a loyal partner to Deputy Dylan Rice. Shadow was a valuable asset to our department and a true friend to our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dylan and his family and we ask for the public's help in respecting their privacy during this difficult time."
